St. John’s and the City, Oct. 31-Nov.2

What’s shaking, St. John’s,

This weekend is a major week for all you boys and girls, as it is that time of year, again, to thrown on those sexy outfits and Mario costumes and make a trip down the road to halloweentown. I know I’m getting prepared, as my costume idea is fitting for my personality (The Baseball Furies, son!).

Now, we all know we have our parties, haunted houses and parades all figured out, so I’m here this week to give you an event that may go unnoticed here in the city that may be one of the largest of its kind. It starts right down on that lonely island known as Staten, and ends in the heart of Manhattan. No, it’s not my taxi cab ride-o-shame after my disappointing halloween night…

It’s the New York City Marathon, and this years field plans on being one of the largest ever (sorry, Diddy isn’t running this year) . The 26.2 mile course is one of the final runs of the year for marathon runners around world and carries the tradition of being one of the most rigorous courses around. The course, as seen here, travels through all five boroughs and finishes in the center on Central Park (the center of Central Park, does that make it the center of Manhattan? The thought makes my head hurt).

Last years winner, Kenyan Martin Lel, tries to make it two in a row after a dismal fifth place finish at the Beijing Olympics. Last years female winner, Paula Radcliffe of the UK, is looking to win her third marathon, making her only the second female to do so.

And while your at it, maybe you came come dressed for the occasion…

This dude is ready to cheer on some runners!
