Stuff We’re Loving: Truth in Sarcasm

This is a little shout out to all those mainstreamers who like to pat people on the back for simply not making fools out of themselves on a daily basis.  Grow up.

Congress has done enough for this country in the past two weeks to possibly justify not kicking all of them out of office for what they’ve done to us for the past.  Need to jog your memory?  Oh my God, let’s all pat Sarah Palin on the back for not drooling on herself!  One the other side of the aisle, what has Barack Obama done well in the past few weeks?  With McCain tripping over his words, calling Americans prisoners, and falling off of the attack, it’s like he’s playing dodgeball with a hippo; it doesn’t take much effort to score points.  Yet no one is talking about the fact that he’s just coasting.  Mediocrity.

And so I thank that lovely little comic, leasticoulddo, for calling out the news for accepting this.  It reminds me of a Daily Show episode.  Fast-forward to about 8:45 to see what I’m talking about.

At the left, you’ll see a picture of what mediocrity can do.  In this case, it’s funny; firstly because it’s a building that’s falling over, not our country; secondly, because it’s in Italy, and if there’s anything you can learn from this story, it’s that horrible things can happen in Europe, and no one in America will know.  Thirdly, old things are allowed to fall down.  Presumably, since the Leaning Tower of Pisa is older than America, we shouldn’t accept our nation’s collapse until that one happens first.

Snarkiness aside, however, remember the words of Brian Wilson, lead singer of The Beach Boys: “Beware the lollipop of mediocrity; lick it once and you’ll suck forever.”
