STJ Sports Round-Up

Time for some round up and linkage dumps:

SOFTBALL: The Red Storm softball team kicked off their fall season on September 20 at home and split the series. They defeated Manhattan 5-0 and lost to Fordham 9-0. Sophomore pitcher Kat Lawrence shined in the opening game while fellow sophomore Linzee Sumrall struggled, allowing all 9 earned runs to Fordham.

MEN’S SOCCER: The men’s soccer team finished off a double overtime game versus Marquette, 1-0. Freshman Bjorn de Hoop was the hero of the game while goal keeper Neal Kitson set the school record for longest scoreless streak.

MEN’S TENNIS: St. John’s tennis made an impressive showing at the USTA Billie Jean King Men’s Collegiate Invitational this past weekend. The Red Storm competed against 18 other schools and freshman Milo Hauk stood out with a 3-1 record.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY: On September 19, freshman Nicole Cocozza finished 13th in the National Catholic Championships hosted in South Bend, Ind. by the University of Notre Dame. Wonder if she could have beaten this guy:
