Beyond Gate 6: Entertainment News

The movie releases of September 5 offered dismal choices, but September 12 offered a better selection. Headlining this weekend are Burn After Reading, Righteous Kill and The Women.

I was able to see Burn After Reading on release night and can say that although it is match up with Coen Brother classics The Big Lebowski or Fargo, it holds up as a solid spy-spoof comedy. Brad Pitt and John Malkovich are great in their roles and audiences will also be treated by a couple great scenes with J.K. Simmons. Critics are a little more mixed, as Rotten Tomatoes has Burn listed with a 78%. Here’s a trailer:

Critics aren’t being as nice with Righteous Kill or The Women, though. Righteous Kill currently holds a 24% rating, with most citing the horrible script and the general lack of good material as the movie’s downfall. The pairing of Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino worked in Heat, but obviously not this time. The Women is faring even worse, racking up a 10% rating. The remake of the 1939 comedy is said to lack any of the wit and charm of the original, despite a big-name cast. Here are the trailers:

On a side note, I was able to catch a press screening of the upcoming The Secret Life of Bees. I can’t really say much right now, but it’s great. Here’s the trailer:

Trailers galore!
